Responsibilities

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is actively seeking a Construction Superintendent with experience supervising civil construction projects and a superintendent with underground mining experience. As a Superintendent, you will be expected to model company values and to supervise union bargaining employee resources effectively and efficiently. Superintendents are responsible for scheduling, coordinating and supervising union craft employee activities, and training. This may involve supervising one or more trade groups on the project sites. An ability to clearly communicate both oral and written with craft, managers, customers, and vendors is a key responsibility for this position. You will work closely with your construction Managers regarding all project activities. At MSTS, Superintendents are encouraged to keep all lines of communication open with the bargaining employees, General Superintendent, Project Managers, and Construction Managers. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise individual contributors, including approving time, conducting performance evaluations, and participating in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training of staff.
  • Implement and follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Establish activity level work assignments and, or work projects.
  • Read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Provide support in the preparation and schedule alignment of budgetary estimates, including validation of the estimates for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with corporate procedures.
  • Develop and analyze resource and spending profiles for the optimization of staff management, work priorities and alignment to funding profiles.
  • Complete weekly, bi-weekly and monthly project updates as required to support schedule reviews, progress reporting, and project performance analysis and metric data.
  • Organize and supervise day-to-day operations, ensuring that schedules are kept.
  • Work closely with the General foreman to track and approve bargaining personnel work hours weekly ensuring time is charged accurately.
  • Monitor performance against metrics and goals as established/approved by others.
  • Coordinate project-related activities with General Foreman and Foreman.
  • Ensure that required equipment is on the project when needed.
  • Help in keeping track of change order work and extra work.
  • Monitor and ensure that punch-list items are completed in a timely manner.
  • Review cost sheets and keep updated with the help of the Project Manager.
  • Monitor job costs and trend logs.
  • Assist Work Planning with estimates regarding, labor, and equipment needs when requested.
  • Ability to handle daily project problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Responsible for working within assigned budget.
  • Interact daily with subordinates and frequently with manager.
  • External interactions are primarily with vendors and customers.
  • Ability to work occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime when necessary.
  • May perform work of the same type as those being supervised, as well as, providing technical guidance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
  • A construction or industrial construction background is highly desired.
  • Intermediate computer skills needed. Experience using excel and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.
  • An ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications is preferred.
  • Experience in Tenant Improvements and/or Civil Projects is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of union hall practices is preferred.
  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada). Position requires travel to forward areas located in the NNSS.
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

 

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $98,904.00 - $158,246.40.


Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
