Responsibilities

The Occupational Medicine Department is looking for a highly motivated Psychologist to fulfill the roles and responsibilities required by the Human Reliability Program.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations using semi-structured interviews and standardized psychological tests to establish employee suitability for certification programs and to determine employee ability to work safely and securely.
  • Adhere to the Department of Energy 10CFR's to evaluate eligibility for the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • Staff with the medical team (Designated or alternate Designated Physician) all cases presenting with difficulties warranting potential restrictions.
  • Staff with the Occupational Medicine Medical provider Fitness for Duty (FFD) cases in which psychological and medical issues overlap.
  • Ensure notification to Personnel Security and employee’s management of action by the psychology team to restrict an employee’s ability to perform any work responsibilities.
  • Determine interventions needed to address identified concerns, identifies resources for the employee, and monitors employee progress until restrictions are lifted. Establishes and maintains authorized communications with community providers as needed to foster continuity of care.
  • Participate in HRP and FFD interdisciplinary meetings and meetings with individuals outside of occupational medicine, as appropriate.
  • Consult and collaborate with Occupational Medicine medical providers and management personnel regarding employee behavioral health issues associated with environmental health and safety factors.
  • Consult with medical staff on behavioral health issues presenting in the clinic or brought to the attention of occupational medicine.
  • Participate as a member Local Insider Threat Working Group (LITWG).
  • Provide psychological education services and referrals to employees.
  • May provide training on behavioral health issues to the NNSS work force.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for behavioral health issues at the NNSS.
  • Understand and adhere to all NNSS and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to behavioral health issues.
  • Adhere to ethical principles articulated by the American Psychological Association.
  • Ensure all behavioral health related results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
  • Provide services through the NNSS Occupational Medicine clinic(s).
  • Foster a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 11 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
    • Doctoral Degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology and 8 years of post-doctoral clinical experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of clinical psychology, including clinical counseling and organizational dynamics.
  • Advanced skills in the preparation and presentation of written psychological evaluations.
  • Advanced skills to conceptualize and communicate major elements of behavioral health issues to all levels of personnel.
  • Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting behavioral health issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of occupational medicine principles, programs, and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with behavioral health issues, complications, and treatments relating to radiological, chemical, and biological hazards and diseases.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with occupational health-related federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains applicable license.
  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) and some work at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada is required in support of these functions.
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

 

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $121,326.40 - $194,126.40. 


Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
