Responsibilities

The Engineering Department is establishing an On-Site Design Engineering team to be based in Mercury, NV and needs an individual that has an excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD design software. This team will be responsible for supporting low-rigor projects, emerging project issues, providing support for project discovery, project scope development, support for identifying functional requirements for projects and systems, and providing support to the Construction Department.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate on walk-downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems with system owners, and generate and/or review functional requirements documents.
  • Utilize AutoCAD specifically to prepare engineering drawings, sketches, and figures.
  • Utilize Autodesk CAD software products to create design drawings for construction projects, and the eventual creation and modification of 3D models of systems and structures used to create the design drawings.
  • Prepare and check engineering design documents, including drawings, sketches, and change notices.
  • Work directly with engineers and project engineers to create design packages.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, facility managers, project managers, and project engineers.
  • Work on multiple projects maintaining a high level of detail while adapting to project demands.
  • Build team relationships with technical and other company organizations including Management.
  • Attend Tier 1 staff meetings and be an active participant in the discussions.
  • Complete engineering tasks as described in the engineering work plans.
  • Serve as a consultant to less experienced technologists.
  • Provide practical advice on implementation of solutions for organizational goals.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years’ progressive related experience.
  • Knowledge of US National Computer-aided Design standards and their application.
  • Ability to learn new CAD software quickly is a plus.
  • Experience using FARO and Autodesk ReCap point cloud manipulation software preferred. 
  • Experience in 3D modeling is preferred.
  • Experience in Bentley MicroStation in order to convert legacy data to AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Revit is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to complete workload with little supervision.
  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s, Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

 

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $79,622.40 - $119,433.60.


Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
