    Responsibilities

    The Mission Execution Directorate's Nevada Operations is looking for a highly motivated scientist to take charge of diagnostic algorithm development in support of scientific research for Stockpile Stewardship. You will develop tools to improve our work processes and manage data across a wide range of applications. The Computer Scientist will participate in the fielding of diagnostic systems, and play an active role in the Site-Directed Research and Development Program.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Focus is on applying academic knowledge to the work environment and developing good work/team habits.
    • Assist in compiling and summarizing scientific data, utilizing technology solutions for operational needs.
    • Able to utilize technology solutions for both experimental and operational needs.
    • Programming computational solutions in diverse developmental environments.
    • Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables.
    • Defines specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
    • Frequent use and application of established technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
    • Selects and implements computer applications for their field.
    • Builds direct relationships with the laboratory partners and will use scientific methods to experimental operations, also reporting on accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders.
      Work location will be North Las Vegas. 
    • Work assignments will also require work at the Nevada National Security Site, Los Alamos, NM and Livermore, CA

    Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

    • Bachelor's degree in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, (STEM) field. 
    • Must have strong written and oral communications skills and must show a demonstrated ability to work on complex applied projects in a group atmosphere.     

    • Ability to interface effectively with technical personnel from other MSTS organizations, outside organizations, and government agencies.

    • Must possess planning and organizing skills and initiative.

    • Must be able to employ independent judgment and apply professional knowledge to ensure that assignments are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time.

    • Experience with one or more computing programming languages or mathematical computing software packages.

    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.

     

    Eligibility Requirements - To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”
