MSTS is a limited liability company consisting of Honeywell International Inc. (Honeywell), Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (Jacobs), and Stoller Newport News Nuclear, Inc. (SN3).


Provide field support for dynamic physics experiments within Stockpile Stewardship science program. Work with engineers and scientists in the development and fielding of electrical, optical, and laser diagnostic data acquisition systems. This position involves building fiber-optic arrays and assemblies including cable breakout, fiber terminations, manual and mechanical fiber optic polishing, fusion splicing, and gas blocking. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide field support for dynamic physics experiments within Test and Experimentation, working as a team member with coworkers, engineers and scientists on the fiber optics in their diagnostic systems. 
  • Assist with developing alternate systems, equipment, or engineering methods.
  • Assist in and review project design and technical documents.
  • Interact with customers/vendors with the ability to plan, guide and prepare administrative (procurement) and technical documents for maintenance, testing and upcoming projects.
  • Perform walk-downs job planning and cost/time estimates.
  • On occasion walking over rough ground, lifting equipment safely up to 50 pounds in and out of vehicles and work in field temperatures between 30 and 100+ degrees F. 
  • Organize and manage concurrent work requests from different field customers. 
  • Organize and maintain adequate supplies in a timely manner. 
  • Must be able to follow Company Documents and Activity Level Work instructions while meeting customer needs. 
  • Primary work location will be North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site including underground as required by projects. 
  • This position sometimes requires driving to work in diverse field environments and out in remote desert locations. Some travel may be required to outlying locations in California and New Mexico.


Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

  • Associate degree in a technical or field related to the position plus at least and 13 years’ progressive related experience or equivalent training and experience or High School diploma plus 15 years’ progressive related experience.  Some vocational training preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, alignment lasers, optical power meters, hand tools, razor blades, small electric drills, Dremel tools, epoxies and solvents. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing alternate systems, equipment, or engineering methods to increase efficiency or troubleshoot situations in the field.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of Windows operating systems and a drawing software like Visio is desired.
  • Experience preparing requisitions for the purchase of parts and equipment.
  • Experience in handling and organizing stock parts and supplies.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Must have fine motor skills and excellent hand eye coordination to be able to work with and manipulate small-scale glass fibers.
  • Attention to detail in following instructions with hands-on tasks is essential.
  • Proficient interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate in a team environment effectively.  
  • Ability to present and explain technical information.
  • Ability to work underground required.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks.
  • Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”


Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”
