    Responsibilities

    Serve as a Technical Writer II for the Emergency Communications & Services Division, supporting the ECN located at the Remote Sensing Laboratory, Nellis (RSLN) on Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. Assist the Operations and Documentation Department Manager with document development and document control duties for programs and operations.

     

    • Assist management of the ECN Documentation Library and Program. The DOE NNSA Information Technology (IT) environment requires numerous policies and regulations that influence and guide the development and execution of IT projects.
    • Assist the delivery of a robust, reliable IT Documentation Library to support better decision making, increase security, reduce risk, and provide more effective information exchange.
    • Achieve the stated goals, strong strategic planning, enhanced IT acquisition practices, measurement of IT performance, integration of new technology and improvement of overall IT Documentation management is required.
    • Organize and structure the IT business processes. Develops, writes, and edits manuals, technical reports, project correspondence, brochures, news articles, information releases to the public, and other technical and administrative publications according to established formats and quality standards.
    • Review and edit expansive documents with flexible designs.
    • Collects project-related information and data from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs); organizes assigned document development projects.
    • Assist with the organization of the ECN SharePoint site, and library of documentation, which includes recurring correspondence such as 5 and 10-year plan, Strategic Plan, PEP, SEP, Business Impact Analyst (BIA), Lessons Learned, and COOP plans.
    • Conducts technical writing reviews, including content crosswalks of material.
    • Perform related work as assigned by Manager.
    • Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health, and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers. Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations. Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision. Understand the principles associated with the Mission Support and Test Services safety concept. Participate in and embrace environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives. 
     

    Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

     

    • Bachelor's degree in related field and at least 2 years of professional level experience or equivalent training and experience.
    • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical documents.
    • Prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines.
    • Preferred experience in designing/developing/implementing formal qualification/certification programs.
    • Experience using word processing, email, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Word. 
    • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 
    • Ability to provide team direction and leadership.
    • Must have a valid driver's license.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level).   Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program. Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.” Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.
