    • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 14 years' of related and progressively responsible experience.

    • Demonstrated ability to develop budgets and manage resources.

    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.


    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    The desired candidate will provide technical and functional leadership for approximately 30 technical employees supporting the MSTS stockpile stewardship mission at the Los Alamos office.  Work closely with MSTS management in Nevada as well as collaborating with other offsite offices (e.g., Special Laboratory Technologies and Livermore Operations) in the execution of LANL and other customers’ programmatic requirements.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Will supervise modeling, simulation and data analysis activities while nurturing the careers of technical staff, orchestrating growth opportunities, and ensuring task completion in an R&D environment.
    • Recruit technical staff, ensure MSTS safety concept and communicate job expectations while maintaining resource and financial objectives.
    • Must be experienced with earned-value management systems.
    • Oversee activities in the Secure Computing Lab and develop technical and business development vision.
    • Encourage employees to raise issues, and will readily address operation issues and concerns.
    • Will inspire employees to succeed in various national security science challenge and mentor early career managers to provide management succession as needed.
    • Provide program support and technical vision for data analysis activities related to Stockpile Stewardship.
    • Provide technical expertise related to analysis algorithm development.
    • Be responsible for leading the development and execution of both tactical and strategic planning to assure new missions, new funded work and the continuity of ongoing mission.
    • Be proactive in exploring new areas of technology investment through Site-Directed Research and Development (SDRD).
    • Establish clear responsibility and accountability for carrying out safety requirements. 
    • Anticipate risks and assure risks inherent in operations are identified and properly controlled.
    • Be responsible to ensure that all work is executed within the facility operational envelope and is executed safely, securely and within budget, while following established processes, being technically correct and meeting quality assurance requirements.
