  • Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

    • Bachelor’s in calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field plus at least 5 years relevant experience.
    • Prior experience with Nevada National Security Site Waste Acceptance Criteria (NNSSWAC), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) preferred.
    • Experience in radioactive waste management, radioactive/hazardous waste sampling and laboratory analysis. DOE radiological and/or hazardous waste management, environmental restoration, and radiological and hazardous waste shipment experience preferred.
    • Advanced Radioactive Material Shipper or Advanced Hazardous Waste Shipper Certifications are preferred.
    • Knowledge and operation of Non Destructive Analysis (NDA) systems preferred.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • In depth knowledge of the NNSS operations and areas.
    • Excellent communication skills in order to interface with NSTec Environmental Management and compliance staff.
    • Skilled in working effectively with managers of projects, state regulators, National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Field Office (NNSA/NFO) customers, and off-site vendors.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program. Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for low-level, mixed waste, classified waste, and Transuranic (TRU) waste characterization, profile development, and classification for treatment and disposal on the Nevada National Security Site and off-site facilities.
    • Write waste sampling and analysis plans, conduct analytical data validation, analyze radiological and non-radiological data, and select appropriate treatment and disposal paths.
    • Support the Development and maintenance of procedures.
    • Implementation of federal regulations as they pertain to characterization and shipping of waste.
    • Maintain compliance with multiple facilities waste acceptance criteria.
    • Perform reviews of package manufacturing company drawings/instructions to ensure compliance.
    • Interpretation of technical information pertaining to waste. 
    • Support internal and external audits and assessments of waste programs and vendors. 
    • interact with several NNSS and offsite waste generators.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of organizational procedures.
