  • Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

     

    Senior Scientist

    • Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based technical Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field plus at least 5 years' relevant experience. 
    • Master’s degree or higher in a STEM field is preferred.
    • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge.
    • Experience developing and implementing mathematical models to solve complex physics-based problems is required.
    • Excellent programming skills, with familiarity using data-analysis and scripting languages (e.g. MATLAB, python, R) are required.
    • Experience with fluid mechanics and generating computational fluid dynamics (CFD) meshes for complex geometries is required.
    • Demonstrated ability to innovate and a record of accomplishment tackling new areas of research is required.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
    • Interpersonal communication skills to promote an open and informal communication environment, foster collaborations and develop mutual trust and teamwork with multi-disciplinary scientists and engineers are required.
    • Demonstrated skills to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relationships, and to anticipate change and adjust promptly and effectively are required.
    • Experience managing multiple tasks and changing priorities is required.
    • Proficiencies in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), data and numerical analysis, statistical analysis, probabilistic and deterministic modeling, and classification algorithms are preferred.
    • Knowledge of dynamical systems, stochastic processes, gas dynamics calculations, flow visualization, and workflow programming is preferred.
    • Experience with multi-physics simulations and multiphase systems under steady state and transient conditions is preferred.
    • Experience analyzing large, multi-modal datasets is preferred.

    Principal Scientist

    • Experience with fluid mechanics and generating computational fluid dynamics (CFD) meshes for complex geometries is required.
    • Demonstrated ability to innovate and a record of accomplishment tackling new areas of research is required.

    • Experience in scientific project management: planning and executing budgets, schedule, and deliverables is required.
    • Proficiencies in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), data and numerical analysis, statistical analysis, probabilistic and deterministic modeling, and classification algorithms are preferred.
    • Knowledge of dynamical systems, stochastic processes, gas dynamics calculations, flow visualization, and workflow programming is preferred.
    • Experience with multi-physics simulations and multiphase systems under steady state and transient conditions is preferred.
    • Experience analyzing large, multi-modal datasets is required.

    Both Levels

    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    • Contribute to strategies, reports and technical proposals, and prepare concept designs and analytical methods.
    • Utilize commercial, government, and/or research-developed modeling methodologies for complex problems that may involve fluid-structure-interaction, coupling with finite element solvers and thermal solvers, chemical reactions, and/or multiphase flows.
    • Guide implementation and utilization of technology for both experimental and operational needs.
    • Serve as an internal subject matter expert in your discipline and collaborate with project team members and partner labs throughout the DOE infrastructure and academia.
