  • Qualifications

    Nuclear Facility Worker - This position is subject to the requirements of DOE Order 426.2.  Education and experience requirements will be screened accordingly.


    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field (electrical, mechanical or similar) or equivalent training and experience, plus at least 9 years' related experience. Related experience must be in maintenance, construction, engineering or operations with a familiarity in system layout, engineering design, operations of systems and equipment, construction of systems, and/or maintenance of systems.  Related experience can also be acting as Tagging Authority previously or comparable.
    • Preference: Be familiar with OSHA requirements for hazardous energy control/LOTO (29CFR1910 and 29CFR1926).
    • Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office.
    • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings/documents.
    • Must have writing skills which will allow for development of reports and forms.
    • Must be able to qualify as a Tagging Authority through the MSTS Tagging Authority program.
    • Ability to work outside in cold temperatures during the winter and extreme heat in the summer.  Ability to work underground.
    • Must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills to work in a fast paced environment.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.


    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    As part of the U1a Complex team, the Tagging Authority coordinates all hazardous energy control and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) activities between all affected organizations, departments, and other groups, including subcontractors, at the U1a Complex (“the facility”). In this role, the Tagging Authority will report to the U1a Complex Operations Manager and will support the facility hazardous energy control/LOTO needs associated with operations, maintenance, construction, and Subcritical Experiments. This position supports the facility’s mission of performing Subcritical Experiments as part of the Stockpile Stewardship Program.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure implementation of MSTS’s company and facility requirements for hazardous energy control/LOTO as the facility Tagging Authority.
    • Perform Tagging Authority duties at the facility relating to all hazardous energy control/LOTO needs associated with a broad range of systems and energy types (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, gravity, mixed or other).
    • Perform ancillary duties as designated by facility management relating to facility operations, maintenance, and engineering (e.g. operator rounds, procedure development and revision) when not performing primary Tagging Authority duties.
