  • Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

    • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience. 
      • Related experience to be in nuclear facility management, operations, maintenance, engineering, safety, and Conduct of Operations. Examples include nuclear operations or nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant, or U.S. Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program. 
      • Related experience to include working with requirements-based systems in areas such as facility operations, safety basis implementation or equivalent, and/or maintenance.
    • Must be able to understand how facilities operate, the configuration of facilities, and authorization and safety bases.
    • Preferred experience: Project management; safety basis implementation, readiness assessments, and Independent Verification Reviews; operations and maintenance procedure development in a nuclear environment; knowledgeable of DOE O 425.1D, DOE O 433.1B, DOE O 426.2, and DOE O 422.1 requirements.
    • Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office suite.
    • Ability to work outside in cold temperatures during the winter and extreme heat in the summer.  Ability to work in an underground facility.
    • Must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills to work in a fast paced environment with constantly changing priorities.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have valid driver's license.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for "Access to classified matter." Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.

    Responsibilities

    As part of the U1a Complex team, the Support Supervisor provides supervision for the Senior Nuclear Facility Operations (NFO) Specialists and provides key support functions associated with the operation of the facility. 

     

    The programs, plans and processes are implemented to improve the Conduct of Operations, efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of work activities at the U1a Complex. 

     

    You will be responsible for supporting development, initiation and, maintenance of U1a Complex programs, plans, procedures, and processes to support Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) work activities while ensuring compliance with Federal, State and company guidelines and directives.  

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide support, as required, to the Facility Manager, Deputy Facility Manager, Operations Manager, Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Work Control Coordinator, Shift Operations Manager, Maintenance Superintendent, and Operations Supervisor.
    • Develop, initiate, and maintain the facility operations and maintenance procedures, plans, and processes to support work activities.
    • Support implementation of facility safety basis requirements.
    • Act as the Execution Working Group Coordinator.
    • Provide input and updates to the facility integrated schedule; identify with the scheduler areas of schedule concern; work with appropriate management and supervision; acquire schedule input and to resolve schedule concerns.
    • Oversee, as required, the facility Procedures, Document Control, Records Management, chemical lifecycle safety management, Quality Material Storage, and IT&M Equipment Storage Programs.
    • Supervise technical support staff (i.e. Senior Nuclear Facility Operations Specialists).
    • Serve as a primary or alternate Local Emergency Director (LED) when required.
    • Ensure the U1a Complex Operations Logbook is maintained as required.
    • Develop and conduct briefings for personnel, as necessary.
    • Support configuration management at the facility.
    • Support additional assignments and/or duties, as assigned by the Facility Manager.
    • The position also serves as Local Emergency Director (LED).  
    • Support the facility’s mission of performing Subcritical Experiments as part of the Stockpile Stewardship Program.
    • Oversee or help manage U1a Complex activities such as integrated scheduling, conduct of operations, document control, training, issue/commitment tracking and resolution, facility risk management, Real Estate Operations Permit (REOP), execution plans, maintenance plans, and emergency planning.
