  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field, and 5 years’ related experience.
    • Demonstrated experience on scientific data analysis.
    • Employ independent judgment; and apply knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed using quality methods.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
    • Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills to promote an open and informal communication environment, develop mutual trust and teamwork, recognize people for their accomplishments, and facilitate employee self-development. 
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities, and apply leadership concepts with an emphasis on continuous improvement and team building.
    • Demonstrated skill to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relations, and to anticipate change and adjust promptly and effectively.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.


    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”


    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    The successful candidate will join a team of scientists and engineers in a dynamic research environment at MSTS’s Livermore Office. The team will include members from the New Mexico Operations and Nevada Operations of the Mission Execution Directorate.  The work supports the investigation of data collected in stockpile stewardship relevant experiments for the National Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories.  The applicant will report to the Science and Advanced Technology section manager and be located in Livermore, California. 

    • Develop simulation models and data analysis codes in a wide range of scientific applications and will use these models and codes in the analysis of data from a variety of experiments.
    • Will work with software programmers developing analysis code and be able to incorporate scientific code into practical analysis applications.
    • Conduct independent research and develop research proposals.
    • Must have the flexibility and motivation to learn new programming languages and creative solutions to complex problems.
    • Applications will vary from project to project and can include a wide range of topics such as developing scientific simulation software to solve complex scientific problems and developing code for data analysis.
    • Must will be willing to support projects as they are needed and be self-motivated to learn skills and technologies outside their previous experience.
