  • Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.


    • Familiarity with micro-controllers, FPGA’s, ARM, embedded Linux, Android and circuit board design and layout is required.
    • Strong familiarity with embedded system design and implementation is required.
    • Strong programming skills including embedded code, debugging and basic UI design is required.
    • Experience with communications technologies such as USB, serial/UART, i2c, SPI, WiFi, LoRa, GSM, SATCOM, BLE, Ethernet, DSL, MQTT / MQTT-SN, and custom protocols is preferred.
    • Experience with AWS and server management is a plus.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license


    Minimum Education and Experience Required:



    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), plus at least 9 years’ relevant experience.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.


    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    This position is for a system architect for embedded electronic and communications systems.  You will work on a diverse set of projects that use communications technologies. Out-of-the-box thinking to solve complex problems differentiates our projects from the rest.

    As a system architect, you will lead a team of engineers and technicians in the development of electronic systems for challenging applications in support of National Security.  You will have several simultaneous projects and will be expected to delegate work to team members and mentor junior staff.  You will interface directly with customers and help write proposals for future projects.  You will travel to customer sites for program reviews, discussions and field demonstrations of systems.





    • Develop solutions that may be new and unique.
    • Oversee research, data compilation and data analysis.
    • Oversee field programs, designs, and instrumentation systems.
    • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to both internal and external parties.
    • Provide cross-disciplinary integration for complex projects.
    • Define customer needs and develop technical proposals.
    • Work with peers, other disciplines and other internal organizations to coordinate project execution and compliance.
    • Develop and present education or training in applicable discipline.
    • Represent organization as primary technical contact to other internal organizations.
    • Foster relationships and identify opportunities across organizational boundaries


    • Focus on the most complex projects with the broadest technical scope, requiring interdisciplinary and interagency coordination.
    • Devise entire courses of action of the broadest scope to solve multiple problems of very complex nature.
    • Assure solutions optimize state-of- the-art technology and minimizes programmatic constraints.
    • Set priorities and standards for research, data compilation and data analysis.
    • Conduct in-depth analyses considering multiple tangible and intangible factors.
    • Carry out special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches and techniques.
    • Serve as an expert resource, consultant, and advisor both internally and to other organizations.
    • Develop new initiatives and technical capabilities for the company.
    • Advise management on technology utilization and development.
    • Report project status, issues and results to management.
    • Identify organizational and interdepartmental issues.
    • Frequently invited to serve on internal and external technical committees.
    • Provide guidance to senior management regarding strategic development opportunities for new technologies and capabilities.
