  • Qualifications

    Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), plus at least 9 years’ relevant experience
    • Demonstrated desire to learn and innovate.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and procedures.
    • Knowledge of instrumentation & control, electrical, mechanical or electromechanical components.
    • Should be self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Ideally, the applicant will have strong time-management skills. Be well organized, maintain safe work habits and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and technical documents.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.

    Department of Energy Q clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.  Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program. Eligibility Requirements - To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security."

    Performs duties as a Civil/Structural Facility/System Engineer within the MSTS Nuclear Assets Directorate.  Several positions are available at various locations within the Forward Areas of the Nevada National Security Site, including the Device Assembly Facility (DAF), U1a, Joint Actinide Physics Experimental Facility (JASPER), and NN-1 Facilities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Serves as a DOE O 420.1C qualified Cognizant System Engineer (or equivalent) and/or Design Authority.

    • Devises solutions to highly complex technical problems of broad scope. Solutions may require resolving conflicting customer expectations and design requirements, utilizing unconventional technology and materials, and cross-disciplinary integration.
    • Coordinates complex projects including team members external to MSTS. Focuses on projects of substantial complexity and broad scope, requiring interdisciplinary coordination.
    • Interprets and adapts guidelines for specific cases.
    • Evaluates nuclear facility processes, procedures, and work instructions to improve performance.
    • Interface with regulatory customers (e.g., NFO, DNFSB) on technical issues.
    • Prepares work statements for complex subcontracts and procurements, evaluates bids and makes recommendation for awards.
    • Provides expertise on operational goals.
    • Serves as consultant to less experienced engineers, providing practical advice on implementation of solutions for organizational goals.
    • Defines customer needs and develops technical proposals.
    • Perform design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes and standards, computer software, and generally accepted best management practices.
    • Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations.
    • Understand the principles associated with the Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) safety concept.
    • Participate in and embrace MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
