  • Qualifications

    • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 8 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 10 years’ progressive related experience.
    • Experience in Communications, Information Technology, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline.
    • Candidate must be experienced with RF, satellite, microwave, SCADA and SONET communications systems.
    • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radio Operators License (GROL), RF coverage analysis, and Microwave path analysis highly desired. Experience in Harris LMR a must.
    • Experience in RF, video, voice and data communications would be favorable.
    • Candidate must be able to perform duties in inclement weather.
    • Must be able to physically move and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. above the waist without assistance.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license, and be able to perform off-road driving and operate off-road vehicles (4X4, Quads, snow cat) in remote areas and on unmaintained roads.
    • Be willing to become certified in tower climbing and work at heights for extended periods of time.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program. Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Key Responsibilities

    • Install, maintain, and operate communication networks to provide radio, voice, data, and video communications support for the Information Services Division Radio and Microwave group.
    • Candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, operating, installing, testing, electronic and mechanical repair and acceptance of communications and data systems. Be able to operate basic and specialized instrumentation, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and other required test equipment.
    • Assist with the planning and design of Radio Frequency (RF), microwave, satellite, SCADA and SONET (Synchronous Optical Networking).
    • Program and maintain current P25 LMR mobile and portable radios, and provide customer support as needed.
    • Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: T1 multiplexers, public address systems, battery & solar charging systems, antenna & antenna. combining systems, cable television, conventional radio, programmable logic controllers, pager and fax machine repairs and video systems.
    • Working conditions vary from office/shop environments to climbing towers and working in underground facilities.
    • Be willing to provide communications support in remote areas under austere conditions and be willing to be on call nights and weekends as assigned.
