  • Qualifications

    • Enrollment in and successful completion of a minimum of 6 graduate credit hours per semester towards a technical or scientific discipline in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) field. You must be actively enrolled in school.
    • You must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on 4.0 scale.
    • You must have:
      • Planning/organizing skills and initiative
      • Good written and verbal communication skills
      • Basic knowledge of scientific equipment, software, systems, calculations, and application of scientific methods
      • Ability to follow directions, both written and verbal, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
      • Valid driver's license
    • Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office and computer programming
    • A pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Summer graduate science interns will work under the direct supervision of a mentor and will be provided with hands-on participation in ongoing projects at one of the most unique experimental sites in the United States, or one of our outlying locations. Internships are available in North Las Vegas, Nevada; at the Nevada National Security Site (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada); in Los Alamos and Albuquerque, New Mexico; Livermore and Santa Barbara, California; and at the Remote Sensing Laboratories at Nellis Air Force Base or Andrews Air Force Base.


    Many student interns return each summer and others work for us part-time year-round while they attend local schools.


    We are looking for qualified and motivated graduate students in:

    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Health Physics
    • Computer Science

    • December 2018 - Application process opens
    • December 2018-February 2019 - Phone and/or in-person Interviews
    • March 2019 - Offers begin to be made with 2-week acceptance deadline
    • May/June 2019 - Summer internship begins
    • August 2019 - Summer internship concludes
