  • Qualifications

    • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 8 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 10 years’ progressive related experience.
    • Experience with one or more of the following is highly desired:  troubleshooting of digital electronics, computer hardware, and/or networking equipment, work with radiation detectors, understanding of radioisotopes and isotope identification equipment, and familiarity with emergency response operations.
    • Must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter. S
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with technical and non-technical personnel from MSTS, external organizations, and government agencies.
    • Must be willing and able to perform work during non-standard hours, take on-call duty, and deploy worldwide on short notice.
    • Must be capable of performing moderate lifting and be able to meet company requirements for worldwide travel.
    • Must submit to immunizations for worldwide travel.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license

     

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    Serves as an Emergency Response Technologist in the Remote Sensing Laboratory supporting Nuclear Radiological Advisory Team (NRAT), Aerial Measuring System (AMS), and Technology Integration (TI) Projects. Supports emergency response field operations (real world and exercises) to including AMS, Radiological Search and Consequence Management.

     

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deployment and operation of ground and aerial radiation detection instruments in the field.
    • Assist in the development of radiological emergency response procedures, including equipment operation and applications for field operations.
    • Maintain radiation detection equipment, including routine checks, calibrations, and troubleshooting.
    • Develop and conduct training for other emergency responders on the capabilities of specific radiation detection equipment and techniques for use of equipment in field operations
    • Participation in field demonstrations with other government agencies, including conducting outreaches and exercises for large groups
    • Must be able and willing to fly on a routine basis in small fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters and after training deploy for maritime operations.
    • Must be willing and able to travel worldwide, sometimes under austere conditions, as a member of National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) emergency response teams.

    • Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.
