  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in aviation safety or related field or equivalent training and experience and at least 9 years of related experience.
    • A minimum 1,500 total flying hours as an FAA-certified (or DOD equivalent) manned aircraft pilot is desired.
    • Must have completed an FAA-recognized (or DOD equivalent) Aviation Accident Investigation Training Course.
    • Must possess independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems, compose technical correspondence and reports, and accomplish goals where established procedures may not be specific or do not exist.
    • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the organizational unit.
    • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills to maintain continual contact with management within the Company, DOE, and user agencies in planning and coordinating occupational safety matters, and to maintain relationships with top management inside and outside the Company in planning and initiating occupational safety techniques and programs.
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining
    • Able to deal with pressure of deadlines, heavy workloads, abrasive/unpleasant people, and constant interruptions.
    • Able to remember/recall extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
    • Attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required in writing technical documents and ensuring all Company policies and procedures are followed.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Responsibilities

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Apply knowledge and skills earned as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified or Department of Defense (DOD) equivalent manned aircraft pilot.
    • Assist Senior Principal Aviation Safety Administrator in providing safety oversight of Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Contractor-managed or conducted aviation-related activities.
    • Assist Senior Principal Aviation Safety Specialist in reviewing and approving aviation policies and standards waiver or exemption requests prior to submitting to these organizations; FAA, Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Field Office (NNSA/NFO), M&O Contractor and other governing agencies as applicable.
    • Assist M&O Contractor line manager implementation of aviation-related policies and guidance issued by the FAA, NNSA/NFO and M&O Contractor.
    • Serve as an aviation subject matter expert (SME) for all M&O Contractor aviation-related work.
    • Maintain ready access to a vehicle property equipped and capable of responding to off-road aviation- related incidents.
    • Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health, and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers. Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations. Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision. Participate in and embrace M&O Contractor environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
