  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
    • Ability to interpret codes and standards within the discipline in which they were hired.
    • Ability to qualify as Department of Transportation (DOT) Advanced Radioactive Material Shipper.
    • Domestic travel will be required.
    • Valid driver's license required.
    • Experience working with requirements based systems for areas such as facility operations is a plus.
    • Training or experience in areas related to DOT regulated hazardous materials shipment is a plus.
    • Training or experience in areas related to nuclear operations or nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant, or US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program is a plus.
    • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook are desired.
    • Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

      Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Will serve as the primary internal and external customer interface for our Certified Packaging Program (CPP).  You will be an integral part of our team of experts providing services such as fissile material handling, certified packaging operations, leakage rate testing, and transportation of hazardous materials in support of the MSTS Nuclear Material Management (NMM) Program.

    • At the direction of the CPP Manager, support the Certified Packaging Center (CPC) Supervisor in providing the technical interface with radioactive material custodians, container and packaging owners, NNSA personnel, and other Nuclear Weapons Complex personnel regarding proper packaging of fissile or Type B quantities of radioactive material for shipment, transfer, or storage.
    • Support the CPC Supervisor in verifying and validating certified packaging-specific operating procedures to include opening; inspecting; replacing O-rings when required; loading or unloading programmatic material; closing, leakage rate testing, and preparing packages or packaging for transfer or shipment.
    • Support non-equivalent transfers of material per the Onsite Transportation Safety Program as a Transfer Coordinator.
    • Support the CPC Supervisor in providing the technical interface to the Nuclear Material Review Board (NMRB) regarding applicability of the 441 Manual to proposed receipts of material.
    • Prepare and present information to industry, peer, and working groups (i.e. Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM), Contractors Transportation Management Association (CTMA), Secure Transportation and Packaging and Steering Committee (STPSC) as required.
