  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accredidation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and 5 years' related experience.
      • Relevant experience should provide a thorough knowledge of codes, principles, practices, and techniques in facility maintenance operations.
    • Working knowledge of precedents in the specialty area, the principles and practices of related technical areas.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate independent work requiring judgment, initiative, and experience in the application and adaptation of engineering techniques.
    • Understanding of engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating.
    • Mechanical Engineer preferred.
    • Skill to coordinate technical issues with other organizations or projects.
    • Must be able to deal with pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
    • Demonstrate leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.


    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.” 


    Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    • Supports the Nuclear Maintenance Manager to ensure the proper application of engineering functions for assigned systems identified in the Nuclear Maintenance Management Program are implemented.
    • Provide engineering technical support for the maintenance of the assigned nuclear and high hazard facilities.
    • Provide support during the identification, planning, and preparation for seasonal facility readiness.
    • Identify new and/or existing assigned structures, systems, and components (SSC) with preventive maintenance/predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) needs and requirements.
    • Provide PM/PdM task information to the Computerized Maintenance Management System for entry into Master Equipment List.
    • Provide technical direction and support for PM/PdM work package development.
    • Evaluated PM/PdM results for technical and performance issues.
    • Approve technical changes to Pm/PdM tasks.
    • Trend system performance and/or condition.
    • Establish a maintenance history review and trending schedule for assigned systems.
    • Analyze assigned SSC equipment failure and recommend corrective actions.
    • Provide technical assistance to the Nuclear Maintenance Planner in developing work packages for assigned systems.
    • Review and approve work packages for technical content on assigned systems used in nuclear and high hazard facilities
    • Provide guidance for work package changes on assigned systems.
    • Perform PM deferrals and cancellations on assigned systems.
    • Establish Post Maintenance Testing (PMT) acceptance criteria on assigned systems.
    • Provide alternative actions to be taken whenever a PMT fails.
    • Establish and validate a spare parts inventory for assigned systems.
    • Review the Occurrence Reporting and Processing System and Lessons Learned for issues potentially applicable to maintenance engineering functions.
