  • Qualifications

    Scientist I

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in mathematical or computational sciences or in a  calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field.
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
    • Experience with 1 or more computing programming languages or mathematical computing software packages.
    • Experience with development or fielding of diagnostic systems or sensors.
    • Must possess effective oral and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
    • Must possess planning and organizing skills and initiative
    • Must possess interpersonal communication skills to deal with contacts in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
    • Must possess mathematical skill and ability to understand complex data, terminology, procedures, laws, and regulations.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.

     

    Scientist II

     

    • Bachelor's degree in mathematical or computational sciences or in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field, plus at least 2 years' professional experience with wireless sensor arrays.
    • Master's degree preferred.
    • Demonstrated evidence of outstanding written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience programming in Matlab.
    • Research experience with wireless sensor arrays.
    • Must possess effective oral and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
    • Must possess planning and organizing skills and initiative
    • Must possess interpersonal communication skills to deal with contacts in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
    • Must possess mathematical skill and ability to understand complex data, terminology, procedures, laws, and regulations.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Senior Scientist

     

    • Bachelor's degree in mathematical or computational sciences or in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field, plus at least 5 years' professional experience with wireless sensor arrays.
    • PhD preferred.
    • Demonstrated record of research publications or presentations
    • Must possess effective oral and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
    • Must possess planning and organizing skills and initiative
    • Must possess interpersonal communication skills to deal with contacts in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
    • Must possess mathematical skill and ability to understand complex data, terminology, procedures, laws, and regulations.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.

     

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    The wireless sensor array scientist will report to the Diagnostic Research and Material Studies manager within Test & Evaluation’s Nevada Operations division and will work with a diverse team to develop, design, field, and analyze arrays of wireless sensors for nuclear nonproliferation projects as well diagnostic development, fielding; to field and analyze diagnostics for stockpile stewardship experiments; and to participate in the Site-Directed Research and Development Program.

     

    Scientist I

    • Fielding of wireless sensor arrays at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and other National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) testbeds.
    • Data fusion for analysis of multi-modal data.
    • Programming computational solutions in diverse developmental environments.
    • Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables.

     Scientist II

    • Development of new sensor array suites.
    • Design of experimental implementation plans.
    • Lead preparation of project deliverables.
    • Participate in the Site-Directed Research and Development program.

     Senior Scientist

    • Publication of research results in appropriate conferences and journals.
    • Leading original research into sensor development and analysis.
    • Interfacing with scientists and engineers from the National Laboratories and other stakeholders.
    • Assist in the definition of project deliverables and preparation of project white papers and proposals.
    • Author white papers and proposals to the Site-Directed Research and Development program
