  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field, and 5 years’ related experience.
    • Must have advanced understanding of microwave systems, RF measurements, modern digitizer technology, solid state technology. 
    • Background in accelerator technology preferred.
    • Ability to build teaming relationships with technical and other company organizations.
    • Some travel is required for the fielding of experimental diagnostics at remote locations.  
    • Employ independent judgment; and apply knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed using quality methods.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
    • Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills to promote an open and informal communication environment, develop mutual trust and teamwork, recognize people for their accomplishments, and facilitate employee self-development. 
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities, and apply leadership concepts with an emphasis on continuous improvement and team building.
    • Demonstrated skill to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relations, and to anticipate change and adjust promptly and effectively.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license. 

     

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will contribute to a team of scientists and engineers building a next generation x-ray machine for stockpile stewardship applications. The candidate will contribute to the development and application of solid state electrical systems used as the drive for the machine.  The team will work in multiple locations and the candidate will primarily support elements of the machine that are the responsibility of Lawrence Livermore National Lab.  

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    • Prepare and/or contribute to designs, strategies, reports and technical proposals.
    • Perform design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes and standards, computer software, and generally accepted best management practices.
    • Mentors less experienced staff in specific discipline.
    • Prepares concept designs and analytical methods
    • Coordinates work with multiple project team members.
    • Participate in the development of low to high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) innovations. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work with customers in the field when applying high TRL technologies to new experimental conditions.
    • Engage with peer subject matter experts on decisions related to the advancement of RF, control systems,  and pulsed power technologies in mission areas specific to NNSS strategic areas of focus.
    • Project work may not be exclusive to this project. 
    • Participate on other project teams where their expertise is needed.
