  • Qualifications

    • Associate degree in a technical related field and 13 years’ progressive related experience, or equivalent training and experience or High School diploma plus 15 years’ progressive related experience.  Some vocational training preferred. 
    • Ability to work underground required. 
    • Ability to work well with others as they will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations.  
    • Excellent oral/written communications skills. 
    • Experience with planning/organizing skills and initiative, and be capable of employing independent judgment and knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed efficiently and on time. 
    • Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks.
    • Experience with working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers. 
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision in a dynamic multidisciplinary project environment with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, and schedule.  
    • Limited travel is required
    • Experience using standard office software products. 
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team.
    • Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    • Provide field support for dynamic physics experiments within Stockpile Stewardship science program. 
    • Work with engineers and scientists in the development and fielding of electrical, optical, and laser diagnostic data acquisition systems. 
    • Responsible for operating diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, delay generators, spectrum analyzers, fiber optic inspection and cleaning equipment, optical time domain refractometers, spectrum analyzers, etc. 
    • Assist in researching, extracting, analyzing and compiling system documentation, data acquisition, and technical data. 
    • Be a team member on specific event diagnostics as skills and experience permit. 
    • As a member of field support, you must be able to adapt to diverse field environments. 
    • Ability to do basic electronic work.  
    • Assists in researching, extracting, analyzing and compiling technical data.
    • Assists in the preparation of reports, graphs, proposals, studies and correspondence.
    • Assists in preliminary engineering analysis, conceptual design and engineering calculations.
    • Assists in and review project design and technical documents.
    • May perform drafting assignments, revise prints and prepare sketches. 
    • Work locations will include the North Las Vegas Facility and the Nevada National Security Site
