  • Qualifications

    • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 8 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 10 years’ progressive related experience
    • Experience in nuclear waste management programs and/or radioactive waste management required
    • Experience in receipt of waste, receipt paperwork and processing waste transporter documents preferred
    • Previous OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations training and Radiological Worker II training are desired
    • Must have a basic understanding of both Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, as well as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
    • Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office
    • Ability to work outside in cold temperatures during the winter and extreme heat in the summer
    • Must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills to work in a fast paced environment
    • Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.” Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.” 
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Responsibilities

    • The candidate’s primary responsibility will be the verification and receipt of Low-Level and Mixed Low-Level Waste shipments at the Area 5 Radioactive Waste Management Complex (RWMC)
    • Process shipment paperwork, review of departmental procedures and quality control of shipment paperwork
    • Perform surveillances and inspections
    • Perform administrative functions related to support the Area 5 Document Safety Analysis (DSA) including reading, training, exams, and implementation
    • This position requires qualification to the Area 5 Low-Level Waste Specialist position and Real Time Radiography (RTR) Operator
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management
