  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and at least 14 years’ relevant experience.
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge.
    • Graduate research experience may be recognized.
    • Recognized subject matter expert in technologies to include Broadband Laser Ranging (BLR) and Photon Doppler Velocimetry (PDV). 
    • Must have clear understand of microwave systems, RF measurements, modern digitizer technology, cable equalization and transient signal mitigation and modeling.
    • Recognized as an authoritative source of information in the National Lab Community.
    • Some travel is required for the fielding of experimental diagnostics at remote locations
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.

     

     

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    • Devises integrated solutions to the most complex technical problems of broad scope.
    • Solutions are comprehensive in technical and business aspects and exhaustive at all levels, including cross-disciplinary.
    • Serves as an expert adviser to other personnel and management on difficult and critical technical issues.
    • Works with customer personnel to ensure their needs are clearly defined and works with others.
    • Applies knowledge and ingenuity to implement cutting edge, pioneering solutions in the technical arena, often in unexplored areas of investigation and research.
    • Encourages development of intellectual property and publishing in refereed journals.
    • Lead cross functional and geographically distributed teams using the NNSS Integrated Project Team (IPT) ideals to solve complex technical problems.
    • Participate in the development of low to high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) innovations. 
    • Expected to work with customers in the field when applying high TRL technologies to new experimental conditions.
    • Engage with peer subject matter experts on decisions related to the advancement of microwave, electro-optic, fiber optic, and pulsed power technologies in mission areas specific to NNSS strategic areas of focus.
