  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) plus at least 2 years’ relevant experience..
    • Knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems, requirements definition, feasibility and testing methods.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly methods and materials, thermal and stress analysis simulation methods using computer aided design software, prototype development and testing.
    • Some project management and project tracking skills desired.
    • Some knowledge and experience in quality assurance and quality control including documentation and revision and version control desired.
    • Technical leadership and team leadership skills are desirable.
    • Should be self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Will have strong time-management skills, be well organized, maintain safe work habits and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and technical publications and presentations.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

     

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    THIS IS A LIMITED-TERM REGULAR FULL-TIME POSITION.  SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE CAN BE EMPLOYED UP TO TWO YEARS, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF ONE ADDITIONAL YEAR, BASED ON THE ORGANINZATIONS' NEEDS.

    • Will work as a member of a small team designing and building complex diagnostic systems.
    • Utilizes the following skills: mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, design of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical products and systems.
    • Fundamental knowledge and practical application of computer-aided thermal and stress simulation methods is desirable.
    • Will support a team working on a variety of diagnostic systems, that may include visible imaging systems, radiography, IR Imaging, IR radiometry and pyrometry, VISAR (Velocity Interferometer System for any Reflector), and PDV (Photonic Doppler Velocimetry) systems.
    • Will work collaboratively with a diverse group of scientists, engineers and technicians to develop innovative solutions to customer-driven R&D requirements.
