  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field, plus at least 9 years’ related experience.
    • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge.
    • Graduate research experience may be recognized.
    • Extensive knowledge of appropriate directives, codes, standards, and regulations related to nuclear safety and facility operations.
    • Experience in developing nuclear safety documents including DSAs, criticality safety analysis, Unreviewed Safety Question Determinations (USQDs), and other nuclear compliance related requirements, documents, and processes.
    • Proven working relationship with the National Laboratories, DOE, National Nuclear Security Administration/Headquarters (NNSA/HQ), and Nevada Field Office (NFO).
    • Extensive knowledge of integrated safety management, configuration management and other activities related to formality of operations, and safe conduct of nuclear operations.
    • Possess extensive knowledge of safety management programs and integration of those programs into nuclear facilities and operations. Proven ability to define graded nuclear safety processes.
    • Must possess demonstrated experience and proven ability to effectively manage projects and ensure milestones and schedules are met and work is performed within scope, cost, and schedule.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Must possess interpersonal communication skills to promote an open and informal communication environment, develop mutual trust and teamwork.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities, mediate conflict, and apply leadership concepts and techniques.
    • Demonstrated skill to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relationships, and to anticipate change and adjust promptly and effectively.
    • Membership in professional organizations may be required, depending on position requirements.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”


    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    The primary responsibilities for this position include assisting with the oversight, coordination, and management of Test & Evaluation (T&E) projects conducted in nuclear facilities.

    • Serve as a technical integrator for nuclear safety, nuclear operations and readiness activities in support of Stockpile Science missions.
    • Monitor activities and practices to aid responsible personnel in compliance with operational and nuclear safety requirements.
    • Provides advice and recommendations for Disciplined Operations, Documented Safety Analysis/Technical Safety Requirements (DSA/TSRs) implementation, risk mitigation, and other areas pertinent to sub-critical experiments.
    • Assists project personnel in maintaining compliance with safety basis requirements during project execution, and Assisting project personnel with project planning, assessments, and presentations as needed. 
    • Provide experience and aid to project personnel in organizing and conducting future projects to benefit the Nevada Enterprise.
    • Participate in tours to promote the understanding and use of the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Serves as the T&E Project lead for conduct of operations and nuclear formality of operations ensuring T&E projects meet expectations of applicable regulations and Department of Energy (DOE) directives. 
    • Assists in the implementation of graded nuclear safety processes.
    • Management responsibilities include deconfliction of resources, developing project schedules and time-lines as well as serving as a cost account manager.
