  • Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and 9 years’ related experience.


    • Seeking engineering degree in either mining, structural, civil, mechanical, or electrical discipline.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada preferred.
    • Three or more years' experience participating in the procurement process and ability to articulate the basic procurement process preferred.
    • Must have referenceable experience in translating engineering, operation, and construction requirements to technical specification for the purpose of vendor solicitation.
    • Demonstrated technical writing ability.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Be able to obtain and retain Q Security Clearance.


    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    • Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Procurement Engineer will assist Project Engineers with transitioning engineering design requirements into technical specification for the purpose of vendor solicitations.
    • Act as the lead for interpreting technical requirements to the Procurement organization and be the Engineering Point of Contact through the procurement life cycle.
    • Devises solutions to highly complex technical problems of broad scope. Solutions may require resolving conflicting customer expectations and design requirements, utilizing unconventional technology and materials, and cross-disciplinary integration.
    • Coordinate the technical evaluation of vendor proposals using technically defeasible processes and industry standard approaches.
    • Prepares or contributes to designs, strategies, reports and technical proposals.
    • Performs design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes and standards, computer software, and generally accepted best management practices.
    • Frequent coordination of discipline information with other departments within the company and with outside vendors. Works with outside contacts as required obtaining relevant information.
    • Develops a working knowledge of codes and standards of other disciplines.
    • Follows established engineering and technical procedures and instructions.
    • Coordinates work within their discipline on moderately complex projects.
    • Directs the work of contractors and suppliers by ensuring their efforts are integrated and focused on established objectives.
    • Mentors less experienced staff in specific discipline.
    • Defines specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
