  • Qualifications

    High School diploma or equivalent and  one year of related experience.

     

    • Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred but not required
    • Training and certification for drug test collection and BAT according to required DOT requirements
    • On the job experience with breath alcohol testing and drug test collection
    • Training and on the job experience with phlebotomy
    • In depth knowledge of 10 CFR Part 707, Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites, 49 CFR Part 40 and Procedures for Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs preferred
    • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records preferred
    • Willingness to work at and travel to remote work location(s)
    • Must have valid driver’s license
    • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language proficiently
    • Must possess interpersonal skills and ability to deal with ill, injured, and upset and uncooperative patients in a sensitive, effective and professional manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality

     

    Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required.  MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform routine collection of clinical and drug testing specimens including blood and urine; collect, process and prepare specimens for shipment to reference laboratory
    • Development and adherence for chain of custody procedures
    • Administer Breathalyzer tests, record results and ensure calibration and maintenance of equipment
    • Receive and enter laboratory and toxicology reports from reference laboratory into the Electronic Medical Record
    • Maintain chain of custody for drug collection procedures
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Federal Drug and Alcohol testing regulations
    • Train Occupational Medicine and Emergency Medical personnel in drug test collection/reporting, performing and reporting the Breath Alcohol Test including the DOT mandated BAT training
    • Verify invoices for charges from reference laboratory
    • Document all laboratory related issues in the patient Electronic Medical Record
    • Develop and update policies/procedures pertaining to all laboratory relates topics
    • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on Federal regulations pertaining to drug and alcohol testing
    • Responsible for the oversight of the laboratory aspects of 10 CFR Part 707, Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites, 49 CFR Part 40 and Procedures for Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs and the DHHS mandatory guidelines for drug testing in the federal workplace
    • Familiarity with 10 CFR 712, Human Reliability Program and 10 CFR 1046, Medical, Physical Readiness, Training, and Access Authorization Standards for Protective Force is preferred but not required
