  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and at least 14 years’ relevant experience.
    • Recognized as an authoritative source of information.
    • Knowledge of Vulcan and/or Flac-D is desirable.
    • Knowledge in Earn Value Management System (EVMS) and Control Account Management.
    • Experience in underground facilities is highly desirable but not required.
    • Professional Engineering License is highly desirable.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

     

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    • Devises integrated solutions to the most complex technical problems of broad scope. Solutions are comprehensive in technical and business aspects and exhaustive at all levels, including cross-disciplinary.
    • Generates designs for underground mining, ground support, ventilation, grout plans, ground movement, monitoring, bracing etc.
    • Generates design calculations, drawings, specifications, mining plans, and coordination studies.
    • Prepares work statements for complex subcontractors and procurements, evaluates bids and makes recommendations for award.
    • Serves as Technical Lead for major projects and startups. Initiates collaboration with partners external to MSTS. Leads collaboration to achieve mission execution.
    • Ensures team’s processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
    • Develops new initiatives for additional scopes of work.
    • Serves as an expert advisor to other personnel and management on difficult and critical technical issues.
    • Participates in business development, by defining customer needs, developing proposals and planning projects that will produce results meeting customer needs.
    • Works with customer personnel to ensure their needs are clearly defined and objectives are met.
    • Applies knowledge and ingenuity to implement cutting edge, pioneering solutions in the technical arena, often in unexplored areas of investigation and research.
    • In addition to fulfilling basic ESH&Q obligations:
      • Must assure that all aspects of safety have been addressed in design and execution of work.
      • Work may affect public health and safety.
      • May lead safety planning for high hazard potential projects.
      • May be designated Work Planner for other departments.
      • May help formulate ESH&Q guidelines
