  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field and 5 years’ of professional level technical writing experience, or equivalent training and experience
    • Must qualify as Lead Planner - Nuclear
    • Able to read and define manufacturer's technical manual guidance, read piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) blueprints
    • Mechanical, electrical, operations, maintenance, and/or construction experience desirable
    • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports
    • Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines
    • Able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner
    • Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details
    • Able to follow oral and written instruction, and follow through on all assignments
    • Able to deal with pressure of handling multiple tasks, complaints, frequent interruptions, and time constraints
    • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office
    • Department of Energy Q clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.  Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."
    • Eligibility Requirements - To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security."
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    This position reports to the Nuclear Operations Asset (NAO), Nuclear Procedures Supervisor. In this important role, you will develop, implement, and maintain nuclear facility organization level performance documents to ensure operations are performed in accordance with the Documented Safety Basis, Technical Specification requirements, Company Directives, Conduct of Operations, National Nuclear Security Administration regulations, Department of Energy orders and federal/state laws.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Research, outline, organize, write, edit, format, review, correct, and finalize company and organization level performance documents to support NAO and the nuclear and high-hazard facilities at the National Nuclear Security Site (NNSS)
    • Perform job walk-downs,  interview subject matter experts (SMEs), research regulatory requirements and other material to become familiar with a process or product, facilitating team input for hazard analyses, and compiling and logically organizing information to be included in the document
    • Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environmental, safety, health, and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers
    • Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations
    • Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision
    • Participate in and embrace MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives
    • Perform related work as assigned by supervisor
