  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field and 8 years’ of professional level experience, including 4 years’ as a designated Project Manager, or equivalent training and experience
    • Previous project management experience and responsibilities should include: Managing medium (<$5-20M TPC sized projects and project teams (10-20 people) through representative project life-cycle phases;
    • Defining, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and successfully completing discrete elements of scope in compliance with defined schedule, costs, risk, and quality constraints;
    • Maintaining satisfaction of stakeholders with differing needs and expectations;
    • Managing communications between project stakeholders and team-members;
    • Identifying and complying with project requirements in development of products and deliverables;
    • Managing the project team in successfully achieving project scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
    • Familiarity with project management and issue tracking software is preferred.
    • Experience with JASPER and U1a Sub-Critical Experiments.

    • Experience managing technical workforce.
    • Facilitates discussion and resolves conflicts within the Integrated Project Team (IPT) and with stakeholders. Establishes trust among IPT members. Builds and uses cross-functional relationships to accomplish tasks. Establishes and manages medium-sized IPTs (10-20 people). Maintains and effectively leads the IPT. Achieves customer satisfaction. Coaches and motivates team members while promoting team interaction. Delegates responsibility appropriately.
    • Demonstrates effective decision-making skills, including knowledge of how and when to escalate issues to higher levels. Analyzes the risks and future impact of decisions. Uses cost- benefit analysis in decision-making.
    • Achieves internal Project Manager Certification at the Intermediate Level or higher within 1 year, unless there are extenuating circumstances. 
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

     

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) has an opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to lead projects providing solutions to national security challenges. This opening is located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

    • Will manage projects within the Stockpile Mission, to include JASPER and U1a Sub-Critical Experiments.
    • Responsible and accountable for all aspects of the project over the entire life cycle (initiation, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, and closing).
    • Meets customer requirements while providing realistic expectations.
    • Establishes specific customer satisfaction standards.
    • Actively monitors customer satisfaction.
    • Pro-actively develops and implements strategies to mitigate risk.
    • Applies project management best practices and processes, such as planning, work authorization, monitoring project performance, and controlling the project baseline.
    • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with functional organizations.
