  • Qualifications

    • Completion of the first year of an engineering degree program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The declared degree must pertain to the organizational unit to which the individual will be assigned.
    • Applicant must be an actively enrolled student.
    • Have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on 4.0 scale
    • Must be self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 
    • Strong time-management skills, be well organized, maintain safe work habits and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills are desired as is a willingness to work with professionals in diverse technical areas.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    • Work as a member of a small team designing and building complex diagnostic systems that utilize the following skills: physics, engineering, mathematics, optics, electro-optics, fiber optics, lasers, imaging, computers, and software development.
    • Operating knowledge of a variety of laboratory instrumentation such as digitizing storage oscilloscopes, digital delay generators, high-bandwidth analog and digital fiber links, and other R&D laboratory instrumentation. 
    • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of computer engineering, computer systems, and computer programming may be utilized on various projects.
    • Will support a team working on a variety of diagnostic systems that may include visible imaging systems, radiography, IR imaging, IR radiometry and pyrometry, VISAR (Velocity Interferometer System for any Reflector), and PDV (Photonic Doppler Velocimetry) systems.
    • Will be assigned to a senior staff member for mentoring during the period of employment.
    • Will work collaboratively with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop innovative solutions to customer-driven R&D requirements.
    • Will be tasked with writing an internal report on his/her accomplishments and research activities to be turned in at the completion of each employment period.
