  • Qualifications

    Senior Engineer:

     

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and 5 years related experience.
    • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
    • Experience in application and interpretation of NFPA 70 and 70E as well as IEEE 1584
    • Experience in industrial and commercial electrical designs
    • Experience in use of electrical software for load flow, protective device coordination, short circuit study, and arc flash studies
    • Experience in performing DC arc flash studies Knowledge of how codes and standards of other disciplines affect their discipline.

     

    Principal Engineer:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), plus at least 9 years relevant experience.
    • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
    • Experience in application and interpretation of NFPA 70, 780, and 70E as well as IEEE 1584
    • Experience in design of lightning protection systems
    • Experience in industrial and commercial electrical designs
    • Experience in use of electrical software for load flow, protective device coordination, short circuit study, and arc flash studies
    • Experience in performing DC arc flash studies
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    Responsibilities

    Senior Engineer

    • Prepare and check design drawings, specifications, calculations, system design descriptions for electrical designs for 600V and below
    • Prepare and check electrical calculations with the use of software for load flow, coordination, short circuit, and arc flash studies
    • Create and update standard electrical installation details
    • Size electrical equipment according to code and load requirements
    • Devise imaginative and practical solutions to unique design issues
    • Follow process and procedures in development of designs
    • Understand and adhere to strict nuclear design requirements
    • Coordinate multiple projects
    • Provide direction to drafting personnel in creation of design packages
    • Receives general direction and technical guidance on complex issues and projects of broad scope
    • Performs design and technical activities that require interpretation and correlation of codes and standards, complex computer software, and unique processes and procedures tailored for the work being executed.
    • Supports field programs through assessment and interpretation of field conditions.
    • Contributes to development of engineering solutions employing new principles, concepts, and/or techniques. Demonstrates advanced communication skills necessary to effectively, collaborate in a team environment. Recognized Subject Matter Expert by internal colleagues.
    • May be lead author on paper/poster.
    • Serves as lead on teams requiring coordination with other teams. Coordinates work with other project team members.
    • In addition to fulfilling basic ESH&Q obligations:
    • Assumes increased responsibility for safety as job responsibilities expand.
    • Work may affect public health and safety.

    • Provides general direction and technical guidance on complex issues and projects of broad scope
    • Serve as team lead and demonstrate effective communication skills in a team environment
    • Performs designs and technical activities that require interpretation and correlation of codes and standards
    • Presents process and design approach recommendations to management and coordinates execution with design team
    • Prepare bid specifications along with review and approval of proposals and submittals.
    • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, Authority Having Jurisdiction, system engineers, facility managers, project managers, and project engineers.
    • Builds teaming relationship with technical and other company organizations.
    • Devises solutions to highly complex technical problems of broad scope. Solutions may require resolving conflicting customer expectations and design requirements, utilizing unconventional technology and materials, and cross-disciplinary integration.
    • Coordinates complex projects including team members external to MSTS. Focuses on projects of substantial complexity and broad scope, requiring interdisciplinary coordination.
    • Interprets and adapts guidelines for specific cases.
    • Evaluates processes, procedures, and work instructions to improve performance.
    • Ensures team’s processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
    • Develops and presents education or training in applicable discipline.
    • In addition to fulfilling basic ESH&Q obligations:
    • Must address all aspects of safety in design and execution of work.
    • Work may affect public health and safety.
    • Likely to act as a safety team lead.
    • May help formulate ESH&Q protocols.
