  • Qualifications

    • Associate degree in a technical related field and 18 years’ progressive related experience, or equivalent training and experience.  
    • Familiarity with standard geometric tolerancing conventions and design drafting standards.
    • Working knowledge of Solidworks, ePDM, Excel, Word, Visio
    • Experience in 3D modeling. 
    • Requester Training desirable. 
    • Detail oriented, recognizing the importance of accuracy, able to work independently and/or collaboratively with engineers and scientists.
    • Demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
    • Prior experience in designing chassis and complex mechanical assemblies.
    • Ability to multi-task numerous projects and conflicting priorities. 
    • Effectively prioritize daily and weekly activities. 
    • Skill at completing priority projects on time.
    • Ability to work well with others, whether one-on-one with clients or on a team with other professionals is an essential skill.
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.” Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities

    • Use computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software to create technical designs and drawings in research and development environment.
    • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and modification of mechanical parts and assemblies. Devises new approaches for designing and drafting complex chassis builds and mechanical assemblies.
    • Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of operations techniques. Devises new approaches to operations problems.
    • May provide direction and instruction to engineers, technicians, crafts, or others in the use of configuration management/CADD software for specific projects or tasks.
    • Performs work that involves conventional practices but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting requirements, unsuitability of conventional methods, or difficult coordination requirements.
    • Plans, guides, or prepares administrative and technical documents as required for the design and build of complex assemblies.
    • Coordinates project assignments among engineers, project managers, clients, and vendors.  Applies accepted technical standards to design drawings.
    • This job requires everyday collaboration with engineers, vendors, and other designers in order to make sure that design details are handled appropriately
    • Work locations will include the North Las Vegas Facility and the Nevada National Security Site
