  • Qualifications

    • Associate degree in a technical related field and 13 years’ progressive related experience, or equivalent training and experience or High School diploma or equivalent training and experience plus 15 years’ of progressive related experience.
    • Experience with one or more of the following is desired: mobile and hand-held radiation detectors for the use in preventive radiological detection operations, operation of hand-held and advance radioisotope identification equipment, troubleshooting of radiation detection equipment utilized by National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) emergency response teams, and/or familiarity with NNSA emergency response procedures and protocols.
    • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with technical personnel from other MSTS organizations, outside organizations, and government agencies.
    • Must be willing and able to perform work during non-standard hours in various environments (including at sea and aboard aircraft), take on-call duty, and deploy worldwide on short notice.
    • Must be capable of performing moderate lifting and be medically qualified for worldwide travel.
    • Must submit to immunizations for worldwide travel.
    • Frequent domestic and occasional international travel will be required (20-40%).
    • Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level).  Review and tests for the absence of any illegal drugs as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.  Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.  Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

    Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age.    Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

    Responsibilities


    • Serve as a technician for emergency response operations; deploy in exercise and real-world deployments.
    • Assist in deployment and operations of radiation detection instrumentation in field operations.
    • Assist in development of radiological emergency response procedures, including equipment operation and application in field operations.
    • Assist with the preparation of operations manuals.
    • Must be able to plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures and criteria.
    • Plan and conduct work related to maintaining radiation detection equipment, including routine checks, calibrations, and troubleshooting. 
    • Develop and conduct training for other emergency responders on the capabilities of specific radiation detection equipment and techniques for use of equipment in field operations.
    • Must be willing and able to travel worldwide as a member of National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) emergency response teams. Sometimes under severe conditions, as a member of the NNSA emergency response teams.
    • Ability to serve as crew member on board rotary or fixed wing aircraft operating equipment while in flight is essential.
    • Perform related work as assigned by supervisor and may direct overall activities on specific assignments.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned
