MSTS is a limited liability company consisting of Honeywell International Inc. (Honeywell), Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (Jacobs), and Stoller Newport News Nuclear, Inc. (SN3).

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and 5 years' related experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of metrology related codes and standards associated with the operation of calibration laboratories. 
  • Experience must include supporting an ISO 17025 calibration laboratory as a metrology engineer.
  • Develops and evaluates metrology calibrations that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electrical current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure. 
  • Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with nuclear quality related standards and policies, is desirable.
  • Must be able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability within area of control to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and accomplish goals where established procedures and processes may not exist.

 

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

 

Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert engineering support to the standards and calibration laboratory. 
  • Provide highly specialize engineering experience and leadership in the support of the Quality Assurance organization in building a world class calibration program.
  • Develop solutions to complex calibration activities that involve state of the art technical calibration equipment, software software, and related processes.
  • Conduct analysis of procedures and processes to ensure they are technically appropriate for calibration activities. 
  • Conduct and develop uncertainty determinations for state of the art precision calibration equipment.
  • Interface with scientists and engineers to solve complex and challenging problems related to precision measuring equipment.   
  • Work with highly skilled calibration technologists to ensure that calibration standards and associated reference materials are approved and acceptable for precision measurement.
  • Provide expert technical judgment in the acceptability of measurement data, resolve technical measurement differences that are outside the combined uncertainties. 
  • Assist in resolving out of tolerance conditions with the user community.
  • Support precision measurement technical activities that require interpretation and correlation of codes and standards, complex computer software, and unique processes and procedures tailored to calibration and metrology.
