MSTS is a limited liability company consisting of Honeywell International Inc. (Honeywell), Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (Jacobs), and Stoller Newport News Nuclear, Inc. (SN3).



  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electromechanical, and optomechanical systems; requirements definition, feasibility and testing methods; manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; thermal and stress analysis simulation methods;using computer aided design software, prototype development and testing.
  • Some project management and project tracking skills desired.
  • Some knowledge and experience in quality assurance and quality control including documentation and revision and version control desired.
  • Technical leadership and team leadership skills are desirable.
  • Should be self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Ideally, the applicant will have strong time-management skills, be well-organized, maintain safe work habits and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and technical publications and presentations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Department of Energy Q clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.  Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."


Eligibility Requirements - To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security."

  • Work as a part of small team designing and building complex diagnostic systems that utilize the following skills: mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics; design of mechanical, electromechanical, and optomechanical products and systems.
  • Support a team working on a variety of diagnostic systems, that may include: visible imaging systems, radiography, IR imaging, IR radiometry and pyrometry, VISAR (Velocity Interferometer System for any Reflector), and PDV (Photonic Doppler Velocimetry) systems.
  • A fundamental knowledge and practical application of computer-aided thermal and stress simulation methods is desirable. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop innovative solutions to customer-driven R&D requirements.
